New Designs
A previous prize-winner of the Worshipful Company of Glass Painters, Steven’s Competition, the studio undertakes original design commissions.
New windows are individually designed with an open- minded approach based upon sound historical practise. We work from full scale drawings, cartoons and source our antique coloured glass from principally UK and European manufactures.
The processes of new window manufacture include the following skills ;
• sketch design - to develop and communicate ideas
• cartoon - full scale design from which a cut-line is produced and the
painted detail shown
• cut-line - full scale drawing from which the glass is cut
• painting - glass pieces are painted and perhaps decorated with
silver stains and enamels and the fired in a kiln.
• installation of new window
• glass fusing - we have also completed a number of contempory
designs using compatible glass fused at very high temperatures in
the kiln.
